Wayland Needs Recreational Space
Our community needs more multi-purpose indoor recreational space. Wayland has youth sports teams, adults, and older adults who want and need a place to gather as members of the same community.
01
REDUCE COSTS
Wayland Youth Sports pays tens of thousands of dollars each year to other towns and private facilities to gain access to indoor sports and recreation facilities.
02
INCREASE AVAILABILITY
With a lack of options and unpredictable New England weather, facilities are limited and regularly unavailable.
03
CLOSE THE NEEDS GAP
Adults and seniors in Wayland have limited access to public spaces that meet 2024 standards for adult recreation activities, such as pickleball and indoor track space.
04
CREATE NEW OPPORTUNITIES
Additional programming opportunities for Wayland Public School students outside of school hours (before and after) remain a major need.
A multi-purpose, indoor sport complex offers several benefits to the Town as well as its residents.
After engaging stakeholders and reviewing nearby solutions, the WCSC recommends a public-private partnership to maximize community benefits without burdening taxpayers. This project will rehabilitate an environmentally challenged site, turning it into a valuable asset.
“A town sports complex can promote a stronger sense of community, increase property values, and bring in revenue from local tournaments and events.”

Sports Center Features
The WCSC has taken a cursory look at what could be accomplished with the site for a multi-purpose indoor sports center. Working with the information in the environmental reports and within local by-laws and zoning rules, we generated a concept demonstrating the appropriate setbacks. This includes required parking and recognizing space for a potential septic system.
